EU Partly applicable (EU) 2024/1689 Art. 50 deadline for pre-Aug-2026 systems 2026-12-02

EU AI Act — timeline reshaped by the digital omnibus

Prohibited practices and AI-literacy duties apply since 2 February 2025; GPAI obligations since 2 August 2025; the remaining provisions of the original schedule apply from 2 August 2026. The amending Regulation (EU) 2026/1744 of 8 July 2026 (in force since 27 July 2026) makes the new dates law: stand-alone high-risk systems (Annex III) move to 2 December 2027, product-embedded systems to 2 August 2028. Article 50 transparency runs on a double calendar: systems placed on the market from 2 August 2026 must comply at once; systems already on the market before that date have until 2 December 2026.

Now: classify new AI systems before market placement — Article 50 already binds them; keep the AI inventory and role determination moving. Next: content-labelling for legacy systems by 2 December 2026. Monitor: Commission guidance and standards for high-risk obligations ahead of December 2027.
